The Drew Smith golf team won the nationwide Mercedes Challenge Trophy in Dubai. The team consisted of Jamie Pinchon who scored a hole in one at the 200 yard par three third hole on the first of the two days’ play and in doing so made history at the Al-badia course while giving the team a lead it never lost.
Jamie, joined fellow Stoneham Golf Club and Durley-based Drew Smith directors Andy Doswell and Neale Foulkes, with team captain Gary Smith, to reform the team that won the event back in 2004, when it was called The Times Corporate Trophy and played in La Manga.
To gain their place among the 12 competing finalists, the Drew Smith four had to beat 18 other teams to win a qualifier at Goodwood back in the summer. Nationally, around 200 teams had entered the competition. But Drew Smith’s success on the Al-badia course at Festival City means they have an automatic entry into one of this year’s qualifying events in the UK.
